A very stylish hideaway
This is a beautifully restored barn with stylish interior design so the moment you walk in the door you know you are in a special place. The views all around are spectacular as you are tucked away in this little valley. Every detail has been carefully planned for a comfortable stay. The weather was glorious when we arrived but changeable so we did some beach, some walking and some exploring. We stayed here for a week out of our month's touring holiday so we just wanted to relax, take our time and a have a rest from siteseeing and eating in restaurants and the barn was the perfect place to do it. Sitting in the little converted stone bread oven with a bottle of local wine, candles and the distant sounds around the valley will be our abiding memory. The owners are attentive but discrete which, like everything else, they got just right.
Bottom line…I highly recommend this location. I felt safe straight away. I appreciated Steven looking after us and making sure we had a great time. Weather was wonderful (we were there in August), we stayed there with our two teen kids. One of our best holidays.
Directions to find the place on arrival were perfect and being met as we arrived was really great even when we arrived from the Brittany Ferry about 23:00.
The weather was ideal, warm, but not too hot. We went to a different beach pretty much every day. There are so many across that north coast and the seafood was great. We all enjoyed it.
Would I wish for more? Yes, but it's only marginal - the internet speed was a bit slow.
We enjoyed staying there very much and felt sorry that we had to move on after 1 week.
They call this area 'Green Spain' for a reason, and we enjoyed some really mixed weather during our stay. But that's what makes the countryside what it is, and the spectacular scenery does come at a cost. If you want wall to wall sunshine, extreme heat and parched landscapes, there are other parts of Spain to visit. This area offers a more diverse range of attractions.
Everywhere involves a drive (apart from the local walks from the house), and there are plenty of good local places to visit, both on the coast and inland. And if you want to visit Spanish Cities, Lugo is an hour away, and A Coruna, Oviedo and Gijon about two. There's no shortage of things to do in the area.
If you want to visit a 'different' area of Spain (with few British tourists), and enjoy high quality accommodation in a rural setting, you will not be disappointed with Granero del Burro.
